I got my first gig in radio by pretending to be the answering machine at a steakhouse 2005. “Press 1 for hot rare meats. Press 2 for salad….You have selected ‘4’…options in chicken,” at which point I would bawk like a chicken for a while and then hang up. The hostess (who worked part time in radio promotions) thought it was hilarious and suggested I meet the night guy at K92, a heritage CHR in Roanoke VA. I started doing bits on his show as Stuntboy Tater (like the potato) on Torture Tuesdays. A year or so and many half naked, very public stunts later, I was doing nights full time and learning the ins and outs of Adobe Audition and its many colorful ways of manipulating audio. That was the first of many steps on a journey through Baltimore (Z1043 CHR, JACK FM), Washington DC (DC101/JACK FM), and to the top of the Empire State building in New York (Z100/KTU). I’ve been here for a month, and I already know where all the bathrooms are!
